La Recherche du silence total shows the captivating portrait of the artist Shérazade Gharbi. Gharbi suffers from a mental disability and through drawing she expresses the people she loves, her wishes, dreams and desires. But behind Garbi's eccentric, cheerful appearance and her light-hearted drawings, lies a world of questions, fears and anger. Video artist Ilke De Vries has brought these two worlds together in the film La recherche du silence total. The film is the result of an intensive collaboration between both artists in which Shérazade plays herself in life-size, self-painted sets. As a beautiful location, Atelier Arthur Rogiers invited you to exhibit the grand, painted backgrounds in addition to the film.

Ilke De Vries (°1981 Belgium) lives and works in Antwerp. She is fascinated by what drives people in their lives. Her video installations allow people to speak about their feelings, their vulnerabilities and turning points, which are often barely visible or ignored in society. Through intensive collaboration, she creates experimental and documentary video installations, video films or audio installations together with the participants. On the one hand, personal thoughts, behaviors and actions are depicted in a serene manner, but on the other hand, the themes are universally recognizable with a critical and sometimes confrontational undertone.

'La recherche du silene total' (2023) was realized for the exhibition 'De windstoot', produced/curated by Art Centre Wit.h in Museum Dr. Guislain in Ghent. The film was also shown during a lecture by Miranda July at Art 21 in New York and at Globe Aroma in Brussels, which is also the film's residency location. 'This is not an apple' was shown at the Reiefestival 2023 and in YOT, both in Bruges. 'Moving Identity' has been shown as a video installation at the Fourth Triennial of Contemporary Art in the Psychiatry in Duffel, the Provincial House in Antwerp, the Nona Arts Center in Mechelen and as a single screen video in the Cinema in Antwerp and Viernulvier in Ghent and in 2021 she received this film won an Award for Best Experimental film 2021 in North Macedonia. In 2023, De Vries received the Deurne Cultural Prize.
