Upon entering this exhibition, each visitor is offered a cardboard mask/costume, through which Jemima invites the viewer into her cardboard world. The tactile quality of the cardboard forms a bridge to the rest of her work, installed at Atelier Arthur Rogiers, where her video projections extend the already existing atmospheric living space. Stories in which Jemima often plays a character herself are set in rooms, streets, hallways, and surreal sets, created using scale models. To her, these spaces in her work feel as if you are inside a body. Does this evoke a longing for maternal security, a claustrophobic sensation, or something in between?
Jemima de Jonge (°2001), Born in Rotterdam, graduated at the Royal Academy of Arts The Hague in 2023.
With her graduation work she won multiple prizes.
